Gateway Pundit: Possible Flu Pandemic Shines Light on Border and Security Problems
“DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano today told America that the government is not testing airplane travelers from Mexico for the swine flu virus that has heightened fears of a possible pandemic. The borders with Mexico remain open. Not even a fears of a pandemic can get this goverment to take the border issue seriously.
Joe Hard sent a related article today on immigration and open borders:” more……

Michael Scheuer: Say It’s Osama. What If He Won’t Talk?
Americans should be clear on what Obama has done. In a breathtaking display of self-righteousness and intellectual arrogance, the president told Americans that his personal beliefs are more important than protecting their country, their homes and their families. The interrogation techniques in question, the president asserted, are a sign that Americans have lost their “moral compass,” a compliment similar to Attorney General Eric Holder’s identifying them as “moral cowards.” Mulling Obama’s claim, one can wonder what could be more moral for a president than doing all that is needed to defend America and its citizens? Or, asked another way, is it moral for the president of the United States to abandon intelligence tools that have saved the lives and property of Americans and their allies in favor of his own ideological beliefs?” more……

Fred Barnes: So Far, So Good? Only 1,361 days to go.
“Maybe there’s a soft landing ahead for Obama or even a takeoff as his policies succeed. But my expectations are low. One reason is the Obama contradiction. Two of his stated goals (economic recovery, energy independence) are undermined by his actual policies. Another reason is history. There’s no evidence to suggest Obama’s policies of courting enemies and airing the country’s supposed misdeeds will lessen threats to national security or strengthen America’s role in the world.” more……

Mark Steyn: Welcome to the “post-American era.”
“According to an Earth Day survey, one third of schoolchildren between the ages of six and eleven think the earth will have been destroyed by the time they grow up. That’s great news, isn’t it? Not for the earth, I mean, but for “environmental awareness.” Congratulations to Al Gore, the Sierra Club, and the eco-propagandists of the public-education system in doing such a terrific job of traumatizing America’s moppets. Traditionally, most of the folks you see wandering the streets proclaiming the end of the world is nigh tend to be getting up there in years. It’s quite something to have persuaded millions of first-graders that their best days are behind them.” more……

Gay British Parliament member threatens Carrie Prejean’s life

Alan Duncan - Picture of Tolerance

Alan Duncan - Picture of Tolerance

If I didn’t know better, I’d think this guy was a member of the oh-so-tolerant American liberal left…

British MP (member of parliament) Alan Duncan, appearing on the British television show “”Have I Got News For You” , first called Carrie Prejean a “silly bitch” and then went on to say “If you read that Miss California is murdered you will know it was me“.

“Have I Got News For You” is shot in front of a fairly boisterous and vocal live audience. After Duncan’s ‘murdered’ comment, they all but fell silent. The host and other guests tried to keep it as light as possible, but you could tell they were somewhere between disgusted and mortified.

It’s one thing – almost expected, actually – when some psychotic ruler like Iran’s Ahmadinejad calls for the murder of a person of faith, but when a member of a supposedly civilized goverment does it, it only goes to underscore the unbelievably sorry shape of our world today.

Duncan is one of the first openly gay Conservative Members of Parliament.

Was it a misguided attempt at humor, or was it a case of using using humor as a cover to say something he wouldn’t ordinarily have been able to say? Either way, this hateful moron’s career is o-v-e-r.

Maybe he can find work with Moveon….

Cnations picks for 4/25/2009

Gerald Warner: Barack Obama and the CIA: why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?
“If al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the rest of the Looney Tunes brigade want to kick America to death, they had better move in quickly and grab a piece of the action before Barack Obama finishes the job himself. Never in the history of the United States has a president worked so actively against the interests of his own people – not even Jimmy Carter.

Obama’s problem is that he does not know who the enemy is. To him, the enemy does not squat in caves in Waziristan, clutching automatic weapons and reciting the more militant verses from the Koran: instead, it sits around at tea parties in Kentucky quoting from the US Constitution.” more……

Andrew C. McCarthy: Obama’s Interrogation Mess – He made it, and now he’ll have to bear the consequences.
“Obamateur Hour continues.
At Politico, Josh Gerstein and Amie Parnes are reporting that Pres. Barack Obama is now backing away from the idea of an inquiry into the Bush-era enhanced-interrogation tactics — at least insofar as such a probe might be conducted by a 9/11 Commission–style panel or Pat Leahy’s proposed “truth commission.” (The Politico reports are here and here; Jen Rubin, who is closely monitoring developments at Contentions, has observations here.) The president, having started a fire by recklessly releasing memos describing interrogation tactics, and then having poured gasoline on the flames by reversing himself on the banana-republic notion of investigating his political rivals, cannot douse the resulting inferno simply by saying, Oh, never mind.

The president is reeling because he sees his legislative agenda going up in smoke. In his inexperience, he reckoned that his base on the Left would somehow be sated by the mere disclosure of Bush-era methods, coupled with vague assurances that a day of reckoning for Bush administration officials might soon be at hand. Howard Underwood: The problem with Republicans
“… the numbers show that, as a general matter, Republicans are selling a message that America isn’t buying.  Our task, therefore, is both to re-frame the conservative message without sacrificing our principles and to find a better way to market that clarified message.  One thing is certain:  We cannot out-Democrat the Democrats.  We cannot compete with their vision of the Government as the solution to all of our problems.  We must provide America with our own vision.

….By focusing on name-calling and character slurs, Democrats can avoid the issues.  Indeed, as many of us on the Right have already noticed, if you can get individual Americans to drill down on issues without dragging in labels, Americans still tend to be conservative in their belief systems.

The Obama campaign certainly noticed that innate conservativism.  While Obama’s policies periodically, and embarrassingly, leaked out before November 4 (only to burst into full flower after his inauguration), during the campaign itself he actually tried to hide most of those policies.  Instead, he won with the American people using empty slogans: “Hope.”  “Change.”  “Hope and Change.”  “We are the Change.”  Obama successfully abandoned substance and won convincingly with a content-free message.” more……

Ed Morrissey: Obama to end representation in interrogations?
Wasn’t Obama supposed to be a Constitutional scholar?

“Rolling back Michigan v Jackson would be a mistake.  People who ask for an attorney should get one without further questioning.  Americans have the right to counsel at all stages of the process, not just in court, as Obama argues.  The adversarial process begins with arrest and interrogation, not when people first face a judge.  While Miranda has been turned into a fetish, Michigan actually does the work Miranda promises — to get people counsel when they most need it.  That does serve a real purpose, despite what Obama argues.” more……

Yo, Kay Hagan, Remember Us?

Senator Kay Hagan

Like many of you, I occasionally (actually a lot more than just occasionally since The One took over) have cause to email my representatives about current issues. Also like many of you, I have the extreme misfortune of having Kay Hagan as one of my Senators.

I’d like to send Kay Hagan an email saying something to the effect of “I know you’re ‘transitioning into your new role’ in the US Senate and all, but at what point are you going to remember who it is you represent?

I imagine her response would go something like this:

“hey there constituent, thanks for writing me! As you know, I’ve been spending my time here in Washington voting the party line, including voting for passage of the stimulus bill (did I read it? Of course not, silly, nobody did!) and generally doing whatever I can to make sure that the President views me favorably in case, you know, he ever finds himself looking for a new wife or something. But anyway I do want you to know that even though I could care less about your concerns, I do read each and every email constituents such as yourself send me. Thanks for writing!”

But, of course, that won’t happen. However, I do know what her answer will be all the same, because she seems to have only one answer to any question or comment you may send her way.

I have personally emailed her office four times since January of this year. Each of my emails was responded to after a ridiculous length of time – average turnaround time has been a whopping two months – with the following canned non-response:

Dear Friend,

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts and opinions. Since taking office, I have received an overwhelming number of calls and emails from North Carolinians like you who are ready to take an active part in our government. I appreciate each and every call and email. With our country facing some of its toughest challenges in a generation, your phone calls and messages are an important factor guiding my work here in Washington. Please be assured that we will get back to you as soon as possible regarding your specific concern.

I would like to take this opportunity to share my website with you. Please visit http://Hagan.Senate.Gov to find contact information for my offices and to stay updated as my new state offices open. You can also find information there about what I’ve been doing in North Carolina and Washington. It is an honor to serve as your United States Senator, and I appreciate your patience as I transition into this new role.  I sincerely hope you will not hesitate to contact me at any time to share your concerns and voice your opinions on our country’s most pressing issues.

Yours truly,

Kay R. Hagan
United States Senator, North Carolina

OK, I realize she can’t personally respond to each and every email she receives, especially on issues like the shamulus bill, over which I’m sure she was getting slammed with email. However, the above is the exact email she’s been replying with for months, which might lead one to ask, well, just how long is it going to take her to ‘transition into this new roleand start paying attention to the concerns of her constituents?

A friend of mine, similarly frustrated with our do-nothing senator’s non-responses, sent her the following:

I’ve sent two or three e-mails regarding several issues and get canned replies indicating that your office is overwhelmed and that you’re transitioning into your new role.  My question is whether or not any e-mails are actually read and if I should continue to spend the time expressing my concerns.

Thank you.

Predictably, he received the exact same canned response.

It’s bad enough that she has been on the wrong side of every single major issue that has crossed her desks in the months since she’s taken office, but she doesn’t even pretend to read, or even have someone in her office read, any correspondence addressed to her.

This woman is useless.

As a quick reminder, Kay Hagan:

  • Voted for (without first reading or understanding) The $787 billion Stimulus Bill HR1
  • Voted for the $6 billion  GIVE act HR 1388
  • Voted for the unconstitutional Washington DC Voting Act S 160
  • Voted for yhe 8000+ earmark Omnibus Spending Bill HR1105
  • Voted against an amendment to HR1105 that would have extend the highly successful E-verify program in the Omnibus bill, thereby further facilitating North Carolina and the Nation’s illegal immigration problem, and illustrating once again her great love for North Carolina’s illegal alien population even as her home state’s unemployment rate skyrockets.
  • Supports ‘card check’ which, contrary to what she may think or want you to think, as well as being contrary to her ‘pro-worker’ rhetoric, is all about empowering the union at the expense of the worker.

…and on and on it goes.

Hagan should take note of NC State Senator Neil Hunt, who not only gives contextually relevant replies to his constituents emails, but also appears to do so personally.

Have I said ’2014 can’t get here soon enough’ yet?

From Fox News: Democrats Under Ethics Cloud Benefit From Distracted Public

“Allegations of ethics violations by a handful of Democrats in recent months reached something of a crescendo this week as two prominent members of Congress were accused of corruption.

California Rep. Jane Harman denied allegations that she offered to help seek reduced charges for two pro-Israel lobbyists suspected of espionage in exchange for help from a pro-Israel donor, also suspected Israeli agent, in lobbying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to give Harman a key chairmanship.

And California Sen. Dianne Feinstein denied that she devised legislation that helped her husband get a federal contract to sell foreclosed properties at compensation rates higher than the industry norms.

But the latest cases, which involve Democrats, did not make the same splash that corruption allegations did a few years ago, when Republicans were on the receiving end of the finger-pointing.” Read more…

From NRO: What The Memos Mean

The Obama grandstanding tour took a domestic turn with his release of four highly classified Justice Department legal opinions about interrogation. The political point of their release was to signal the end of “a dark and painful chapter in our history,” as President Obama put it — See, we’re not like those lawless Bushies.

“The memos tell a different story from the one the Obama administration and the press are pushing. Detailed and carefully reasoned, they make it clear that neither the CIA nor the Justice Department was trying to “define torture down,” but were instead determined to locate and avoid crossing the legal line at which coercive interrogation becomes torture. Congress itself has not drawn this line with great clarity. The memos discuss a number of harsh interrogation methods, but these were carefully circumscribed and monitored so as not to inflict the “severe physical or mental pain or suffering” that would constitute torture. From Human Events: House Begins ‘Cap and Trade’ Hearings

“The MIT study that produced the average annual cost to consumers of $3,128 per household in increased energy cost alone also produced staggering numbers of job losses from this carbon tax scheme.

“The increased cost was not only in the tax that would be paid but also in the loss of jobs:  3 to 6 million American jobs through the same study,” Blackburn said.  “[The Democrats] tout that this would create 2 million clean energy or green jobs, but our concern is that it would be a net jobs loss for the economy on top of the increased tax per household.  We’re all for clean air, we’re all for clean water, we are all for clean energy.  We are for conservation and taking good care of this planet that we live on, but we are not for taxing people out of house and home in order to pay for some of these programs that they are wanting to bring forward.” Read more….

From the Daily Tar Heel: University officials: Six people arrested in protest

A quick comment on this one – I’m glad to see that UNC is fighting back against these liberal fascist creeps whose only interests lie in silencing opposing viewpoints. All college campuses nationwide should take the cue from UNC that open discussion, debate, and the free exchange of ideas will be protected, encouraged, and valued, and that violent protesters will be carted off to jail like the criminals they are. -Cnation

Janet Napolitano Says Illegals Crossing The Border Is ‘Not A Crime’

From the Department Of Homeland Security website:

This Department of Homeland Security’s overriding and urgent mission is to lead the unified national effort to secure the country and preserve our freedoms. While the Department was created to secure our country against those who seek to disrupt the American way of life, our charter also includes preparation for and response to all hazards and disasters. The citizens of the United States must have the utmost confidence that the Department can execute both of these missions.

In light of recent events, the above reads like a comedy piece. Except nobody is laughing.

Brought to my attention via an article at Michelle Malkin’s site:

This past Sunday (4/19/2009), DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano was being interviewed on the CNN show ‘STATE OF THE UNION WITH JOHN KING’. At one point during the interview, King asked Napolitano about comments made by Maricopa (AZ) County sheriff Joe Arpaio. Here is the exchange including Napolitano’s jaw-dropping response:

KING: A lot of Democrats in Congress want to you investigate him. They think he is over the line. He says he is just enforcing the law and the problem is the federal government.

NAPOLITANO: Well, you know, Sheriff Joe, he is being very political in that statement, because he knows that there aren’t enough law enforcement officers, courtrooms or jail cells in the world to do what he is saying.

What we have to do is target the real evil-doers in this business, the employers who consistently hire illegal labor, the human traffickers who are exploiting human misery.

And yes, when we find illegal workers, yes, appropriate action, some of which is criminal, most of that is civil, because crossing the border is not a crime per se. It is civil. But anyway, going after those as well.

That’s right. The head of the Department of Homeland Security, an agency tasked with keeping our nation secure, just said on live television that crossing the border is not a crime. And John King, the hack, didn’t even call her on it.

For the record, illegal entry into the United States is a crime; specifically, first offense is a misdemeanor, second offense is a felony.

Of course, Napolitano knows damn well that it is a crime, and the fact that she’s willing to lie about it so freely is deeply troubling. The fact that she can lie about it without any fear of repercussions from above strongly suggests, if not proves outright, that she is carrying out the Obama game plan which, in my opinion, is to allow and keep as many illegals in our country as possible so that when amnesty is finally passed, the Democrats will have a voting base large enough to virtually ensure permanent Democrat rule.

Don’t believe it? Consider the fact that she:

  • claims to want to target employers, but has not yet done so
  • claims to be “going after those [border jumpers] as well“, but as we all know, has been doing nothing of the kind
  • has pretty much halted all interior enforcement in the aftermath of the raid in Bellingham, Washington, where she ordered the release of the illegals picked up in that raid.

This pretense of getting tough while actually doing nothing at all, or worse – doing the opposite of what  they are telling us they are doing (try to square ‘tax cuts for 95% of Americans’ with Cap and Trade, for example, and see if your head doesn’t explode from the sheer dishonesty of it all) is classic Obama administration doublespeak.

With this administration, you just cannot listen to the words coming from their mouths. These people are masters of con.; you instead need to look at and scrutinize what is actually being done, or undone as the case may be, and then ask yourself if any of it passes the smell test. You’ll find that very little of it does.

In Napolitano, the President has found his perfect lap dog, and our national security and economic well-being is on a death spiral as a result.

Change indeed.

Carrie Prejean is a Patriot

Carrie Prejean, Patriot

Carrie Prejean, Patriot

I’m going to beat O’Reilly to the punch on this one:

Miss California, Carrie Prejean, is a patriot.

For the record, I could care less about beauty pageants or the women who participate in them. However, this was something special.

Carrie Prejean is a young woman from San Diego, California, and a contestant in the 2009 Miss USA pageant.

Apparently, at some point during the judging process there’s a question and answer session between the judges and contestants, and Miss Prejean had the misfortune of being asked a loaded question by gay sleazebag gossip columnist Perez Hilton, who we find sticking his agenda – among other things – where it doesn’t belong. Here is their exchange:

Perez Hilton: “Vermont recently became the 4th state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?

Prejean: “Well,  I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.”

Contrary to what the leftie sites are reporting, the crowd cheered wildly. (Youtube link here)

Well, unless you just got off a really slow boat from China, you know where this is going.  Pageant directors were ‘upset’ and ‘offended’. Perez Hilton, in a classic display of liberal tolerance, called Miss Prejean a “dumb bitch”. Not to her face though (displaying, of course, some of that legendary liberal courage…)

Later, Miss Prejean was quoted as saying:

“It did cost me my crown,” Prejean continued. “It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual, and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would’ve wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”

“I feel like I won,” she said. “I feel like I’m the winner. I really do.”

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a strong, courageous woman right there. My personal opinion of beauty contests aside, these women work incredibly hard and sacrifice so much of their young lives to the pursuit of the pageant crown. She had to know that her answer would doom her chances before she gave it. But instead of caving in and regurgitating some half-hearted politically-correct answer that may have kept her in the show, she stayed true to her beliefs and gave the only answer she could.

Did her politically-incorrect answer take her out of the running? Probably. But I’ll bet my last dollar that Miss Prejean, like any good person of faith and conviction, will sleep well tonight knowing she did the right thing.

-Cnation

Update: Michelle Malkin reports that not only did Hilton retract his apology (apparently, he apologized sometime today…), but then went on to refer to Miss Prejean as a “c-word”.

What kind of world do we live in when guys like Hilton matter?

Obama Discusses Amnesty in Mexico, Delays E-Verify Rule in United States

Last week, President Obama boarded Air Force One and flew to Mexico to discuss several policy issues with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.  During a Calderon-Obama press conference, President Obama addressed the issue of immigration.  According to The Christian Science Monitor, Obama restated his pledge to pass an amnesty bill this year. (The Christian Science Monitor, April 16, 2009).  In addressing the drug cartel violence, the President said his administration was accelerating efforts to implement the Bush-era Merida Initiative to “provide Mexico with the military aircraft and inspection equipment they need when they need it.”  (Chicago Sun-Times, Obama-Calderon Press Transcript- April 16, 2009).  President Obama’s statements at the press conference indicated that his Administration’s border security efforts were aimed at preventing the shipment of guns to Mexico rather than securing the border to prevent illegal immigration.

Grassley-Durbin Poised to Introduce Bill to Protect American Workers, Curb H-1B Abuses

When Congress returns to session this week, it is expected that Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) will introduce legislation to reform the H-1B “specialty occupation” visa and the L-1 “intercompany” visa program.  Under this bill, its supporters state that employers would have to make a good faith effort to hire an American before they hire an H-1B visa holder.  In addition, the bill will include the following: (1) provisions to ensure that job openings are better publicized, thereby improving the chances that employers will hire American workers; (2) new limits to curb the current practice of “leasing” or “outsourcing” of H-1B workers to circumvent protections for American workers; (3) improvements in how the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) investigate fraud and an increase in fines for any violations; and (4) provisions that will improve information sharing between DOL and DHS.

Cnation’s Picks For 4/19/2009

From Gateway Pundit:
“Up until the fall of 2008, and for years before this, the big banks and other related companies were lending and making a lot of money in consolidating mortgages and selling and buying them on the free market. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were buying the mortgages and bundling them into larger investments which were purchased by a number of entities worldwide. The Clinton administration wanted to enable all Americans to own a home and implemented policies to encourage home buying. During the Clinton administration, Freddie and Fannie lowered their underwriting standards and encouraged banks and brokers to write loans to individuals based in part on their minority status rather than on their ability to repay the loans. Some of the Clinton cronies, (e.g. Harold Raines and Rahm Emanuel) made millions from Freddie during its heyday.”
Setting the Record Straight On AIG

Also from Gateway Pundit, a companion for the above story:
“For many years the President and his Administration have not only warned of the systemic consequences of financial turmoil at a housing government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) but also put forward thoughtful plans to reduce the risk that either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac would encounter such difficulties. President Bush publicly called for GSE reform 17 times in 2008 alone before Congress acted. Unfortunately, these warnings went unheeded, as the President’s repeated attempts to reform the supervision of these entities were thwarted by the legislative maneuvering of those who emphatically denied there were problems.”
Bush Called For Reform of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac 17 Times in 2008 Alone… Dems Ignored Warnings

Just a reminder what liberal protests often look like:
Warning: Some nudity (and no, not the good kind….)
Zombietime Hall Of Shame

From Kevin McCullough @ Town Hall:
“Americans began taking their nation back from bad policies in both political parties this last week. How were they rewarded for it? With veiled threats and intimidations from Janet Napolitano and the armed goons she now commands! Accusing, then not apologizing, and then accusing again gun owners, pro-life people of faith, the 80% of Americans that believe marriage should not be redefined, and even our returning service men and women from Iraq and Afghanistan as “potential terrorists”, the party in power wishes to silence the opposition. “
