The most corrupt administration in American history? It is starting to look that way.

According to an attorney who represented (past tense) Investment firm Perella Weinberg Partners, a Chrysler investor, Perella Weinberg was directly threatened “that if it continued to oppose the administration’s Chrysler bankruptcy plan, the White House would use the White House press corps to destroy its reputation.”

Rather than re-tell the whole thing here, I will provide links to the entire story. None are all that long, but read them all, and read them in order:

White House Denies Charge By Attorney that Administration Threatened to Destroy Investment Firm’s Reputation

Chrysler and coercion

Credible? In my opinion, yes, for the following reasons:

  • Tom Lauria has no apparent axe to grind and was, in fact, a fairly large Democratic donor.
  • He would have nothing to gain and a tremendous amount to lose by going on the record with something like this if it were false.
  • Based on what we already know about the Obama administration, this just fits.

For the record, there has yet to be any substantiation of Lauria’s claim, and we don’t expect Perella Weinberg, Chrysler, or team Obama to have anything further to say about it.

Equally as troubling, to me at least, is team Obama’s certainty that they would be able to use the press corps to take down an adversary.

Troubling, but not surprising.
