AP sources: Obama wants Senate health bill quickly:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Moving forcefully on his top domestic priority, President Barack Obama told a powerful Senate chairman on Monday he wants health care legislation ready in the Finance Committee by week’s end, according to numerous Democratic officials.
These officials said Obama made his wishes known directly to Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., at a White House meeting attended by administration officials and senior Democratic lawmakers.
It was not immediately clear whether Obama expressed a preference for a bipartisan measure — which Baucus has been laboring over for months — or a bill tailored more to Democratic specifications.
Still, the virtual deadline underscored Obama’s determination to push initial legislation through both houses of Congress before lawmakers leave the Capitol in August for a vacation.
“Don’t bet against us. We are going to make this thing happen,” the president told reporters earlier in the day, fresh from an overseas trip that coincided with slippage in momentum for his top domestic priority. more…..
Notice the rush? Again? Obama knows damn well that each additional day this healthcare debacle is exposed to public scrutiny, the less chance he has of getting it passed as more and more of us begin to understand what’s really at stake - for starters, the end of private insurance, the loss of jobs, increased taxes, the ultimate bankruptcy of our nation (which just today passed the trillion-dollar deficit mark), and forced servitude at the hands of an out-of-control government.
Yes, I said ‘forced servitude’.
Main Entry: ser·vi·tude
Pronunciation: \ˈsər-və-ˌtüd, -ˌtyüd\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French servitute, from Latin servitudo slavery, from servus slave
Date: 15th century1 : a condition in which one lacks liberty especially to determine one’s course of action or way of life
2 : a right by which something (as a piece of land) owned by one person is subject to a specified use or enjoyment by another
From the AP article:
The measure would spend billions of dollars subsidizing lower income individuals and families who cannot afford coverage, in an attempt to cut dramatically into the ranks of the uninsured.
To comply with another presidential priority, it would rely on cuts in Medicare and Medicaid to begin slowing the rate of growth in health care spending overall.
The measure is expected to impose a fee equal to 8 percent of a worker’s salary on large companies that fail to offer insurance or do not subsidize it at a high enough rate. Individuals also would have to pay a penalty if they refused to purchase affordable insurance.
If our government forces you to either ‘participate or pay’ in order to provide benefits for someone other than yourself - which is exactly what they’re proposing here - (and face it, the non-contributor is exactly who this system is being designed for), but you then choose to do neither, you can bet the feds will haul your ass away in handcuffs. That is forced servitude.
Understand this: what this rogue president and congress is attempting to do with regards to nationalizing healthcare is absolutely 100 percent unconstitutional. The federal government does NOT have the authority to take over the healthcare and/or insurance industries or to provide healthcare/insurance to people at taxpayer expense, nor does it have the authority to force individuals or businesses into healthcare plans aganst their wishes.
The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution reads:
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
Since the Constitution does not grant the federal government authority to provide for the healthcare of U.S. citizens, congress does not have the authority to do what they’re currently trying to do. Period. The states, however, do have that authority (Massachussettes is one state which does have universal healthcare, and it’s failing).
Yes, it really is just that simple. Unfortunately, and as wee all know by now, neither this president or this congress have any interest whatsoever in following or preserving the constitution, choosing instead to continue down the reckless path to socialism and the massive expansion of the welfare/dependent class.
From the AP article:
Despite objections from conservative and moderate Democrats, prospects for House action along the president’s timetable are better than in the Senate. There, majority Democrats are readying legislation, to be introduced as early as Tuesday, that would prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage or charging higher premiums on the basis of pre-existing medical conditions.
Like your current insurance? Kiss it goodbye, because this single provision will be the death of the private insurance industry, thereby leaving the federal government as the last man standing, and in complete control of your healthcare.
Why?
Imagine crashing your car, and then going out and buying collision insurance after the fact and expecting the insurance co. to pick up the tab for your accident (aka the preexisting condition). How many times do you think this scenario could play out before the insurance company closed its doors for good? Even if they wanted to stay open, they’d quickly go broke and be forced out of business.
Do you really think Obama and co. don’t understand this, that they don’t know exactly what they are doing?
This is a government out of control. This is a president actively and intentionally trying to bring down the greatest nation the world has ever known.
