Michelle Malkin: Obama Plays Dumb On ACORN
It strains credulity — no, it snaps credulity in half — to believe Obama “didn’t even know” that ACORN was “getting a whole lot of federal money” given his extensive legal services on behalf of the group and training for its voter education arm, Project Vote. (Go re-read my column from June 2008, “The ACORN Obama knows,” and all the links for a refresher course.)

Repeat after me: Obama is ACORN. ACORN is Obama. Barack Obama can no more disown ACORN than he could disown his own shadow. more…..

Media Research Center: CBS Disguises Single-Payer Group’s 45,000 Deaths Claim as a ‘Harvard’ Study
Trying to boost the rationale for ObamaCare, Thursday’s CBS Evening News ran two stories from far-left sources, but the network disguised the agenda behind both. Katie Couric announced that “while the debate goes on over the cost of insuring everyone, a new study reveals the cost of not doing it. The Harvard study says nearly 45,000 American deaths every year are linked to a lack of insurance.” Neither she, nor reporter Jim Axelrod, noted that the report was really produced by Physicians for a National Health Program, “the only national physician organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to implementing a single-payer national health program.”  more…..

Jonah Goldberg, NRO: A Tackle Box Full of Race Bait
Of all the poisonous, ugly, and intellectually vapid controversies ginned up in my lifetime, the current breakout of St. Vitus’ Dance over the “racist” opposition to Barack Obama may be the most egregious. Al Sharpton tells CNN’s Larry King that decent and racially sensitive Americans shouldn’t let a small minority make health care into a “racial issue.” Someone in the control room surely yelled, “Cue the laugh track!” In case you don’t get the joke, this entire “debate” over whether opposition to Obama’s health-care reform is racist is totally, completely, and in every way conceivable an invention of the Left. more…..

RealClearPolitics: It’s the Liberty, Stupid
Within days of Saturday’s giant “tea party” rally in Washington, Obama’s supporters in the press began denouncing the protesters as racists. That’s what Jimmy Carter says, and Time‘s Joe Klein, and The American Prospect‘s Paul Waldman, and Paul Krugman and Maureen Dowd at the New York Times, among others.

What is their evidence? Well, they don’t have any—just over-active imaginations. Krugman opines that the “driving force” behind the tea party movement is “probably…cultural and racial anxiety,” while Dowd says that when Joe Wilson told Obama he was lying, “what I heard was an unspoken word in the air: You lie, boy!… Some people just can’t believe a black man is president and will never accept it.” Those are the journalistic standards at the Times nowadays: it’s OK to libel half the population based on what you imagine they are “probably” thinking and on words they didn’t say. more…..

Washington Examiner: What next for the Middle America Rebellion of 2009
A day before the event, organizers said a mere 20,000 or so folks had registered for Saturday’s amazing 9/12 march on Washington to protest out-of-control government. What they got was hundreds of thousands of intensely patriotic people who came to the nation’s capitol to yell “Stop!”

Whatever the number of attendees, this was possibly the most significant Washington protest since the civil rights movement’s epic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963. Indeed, about all that was lacking was a charismatic leader like Dr. Martin Luther King to deliver an “I have a dream” address for the ages. more…..

Washington Post: Illegal health Care
President Obama has called for a serious and reasoned debate about his plans to overhaul the health-care system. Any such debate must include the question of whether it is constitutional for the federal government to adopt and implement the president’s proposals. Consider one element known as the “individual mandate,” which would require every American to have health insurance, if not through an employer then by individual purchase. This requirement would particularly affect young adults, who often choose to save the expense and go without coverage. Without the young to subsidize the old, a comprehensive national health system will not work. But can Congress require every American to buy health insurance? more…..

In fact, these stated objectives are impossible to achieve in an ever-worsening atmosphere of regulation. You see, we’re not in a cyclical recession that will end. Charles Krauthammer: Does He Lie?
No, but Obama implies, misdirects, and misleads.
Obama doesn’t lie. He merely elides, gliding from one dubious assertion to another. This has been the story throughout his whole health-care crusade. Its original premise was that our current financial crisis was rooted in neglect of three things — energy, education, and health care. That transparent attempt to exploit Emanuel’s Law — a crisis is a terrible thing to waste — failed for health care because no one is stupid enough to believe that the 2008 financial collapse was caused by a lack of universal health care. more…..

To discourage that attitude, the Finance Committee bill would fine individuals who do not purchase coverage. An early draft of the proposal set the penalty at $750 or $950 per year for single people, depending on income. WSJ: The Stimulus Didn’t Work
The data show government transfers and rebates have not increased consumption at all.

Is the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 working? At the time of the act’s passage last February, this question was hotly debated. Administration economists cited Keynesian models that predicted that the $787 billion stimulus package would increase GDP by enough to create 3.6 million jobs. Our own research showed that more modern macroeconomic models predicted only one-sixth of that GDP impact. Estimates by economist Robert Barro of Harvard predicted the impact would not be significantly different from zero.

President’s Speech before Congress Generates Heated Controversy, Commitments on Enforcement

Last Wednesday, President Obama stated in his joint-address to Congress that his health reform plan would not cover illegal aliens. President Obama had also previously stated that he does not support covering illegal aliens under a new health care plan. (CBSNews, July 21, 2009).

But to date, the White House has yet to release a sufficiently detailed proposal that would allow the public to judge whether the “President’s plan” lives up to the commitment he has made to the American people.  Instead, the public is left only to study the language of the House health care bill (H.R. 3200), which does contain loopholes that will clearly allow illegal aliens to access taxpayer-funded health care benefits. (See FAIR’s Legislative Update, August 24, 2009).

Speaking before the joint session of Congress, President Obama said: “Now, there are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false.” (Health Care Address, September 9, 2009).  In response to the President’s comment, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) made his much-reported rebuttal.  FAIR has never claimed that H.R. 3200 expressly grants taxpayer-subsidized health care to illegal aliens. What we have said repeatedly, however, is that this legislation contains two enormous loopholes that will allow illegal aliens to access taxpayer-funded benefits created by the bill. (See FAIR’s House Health Care Bill Analysis). The first such loophole will allow illegal aliens to enroll in the “public option” health plan, and the second loophole exists because there is nothing in the bill that will effectively prevent illegal aliens from receiving affordability credits (taxpayer-provided subsidies to buy health insurance). The Congressional Research Service (CRS) drew the same conclusion with respect to these loopholes in its analysis of H.R. 3200, as well. (Id.; See FAIR’s Legislative Update, August 31, 2009; CRS Report, August 25, 2009).

In the days following Rep. Wilson’s outburst, key Senators on the Finance Committee announced that they were revisiting the issue with respect to the bill they were negotiating. Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) stated late last week: “What we are trying to prevent is anyone who is here illegally from getting any federal benefit.”  (CBS-News 4, September 12, 2009).  According to at least one media report, an unnamed Republican Finance Committee aide has indicated that, despite the revisiting of this issue, illegal aliens would still be able to buy insurance through the health care exchange.  (Id.).

While the specific language being considered in the Senate has not been made public, the best way to ensure the bill does not provide benefits to illegal aliens would be to include the recommendations made by FAIR:  namely, to amend the bill to include: (1) clear language that makes illegal aliens ineligible for enrollment in publicly funded or subsidized insurance programs and (2) a requirement that applicants for these programs have their immigration status verified through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system. (See FAIR’s Press Release, August 26, 2009).

These recommendations are embraced by an overwhelming majority of Americans: last week, Rasmussen Reports released polling results showing that “[e]ighty-three percent (83%) of voters nationwide say that people should be required to prove they are a citizen of the United States before receiving government health care subsidies.” (Rasmussen Reports, September 7, 2009). In addition, it appears that the Senate health care reform bill will include “a proof of citizenship requirement to participate in the new health exchange.” (Time, September 11, 2009). It is unclear, however, as to whether the Senate version will include a similar requirement for the affordability credits.

According to media reports, there is another immigration related issue that remains outstanding which relates to how legal immigrants would be treated under the bill.  (CBS-News4).  Under current law, which was established by the historic Welfare Reform act signed into law by President Bill Clinton, most legal immigrants must be lawful permanent residents for at least five years before they can access federal public benefits.  Section 242(d) of the House bill waives this waiting period, allowing  legal aliens to receive benefits under the House bill as soon as they enter the United States. In the Senate, the Finance Committee’s Ranking Member, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), wants to retain the provisions of current law for a five-year waiting period but, according to media reports, Sen. Conrad said Friday that this issue had not yet been resolved.

New Report Highlights Costs of Illegal Immigration in Health Care Reform

On Tuesday, September 8, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) released an analysis estimating that 6.6 million illegal aliens could receive the taxpayer-subsidized affordability credits created by the House health care reform bill (H.R. 3200). According to CIS, if all income-eligible illegal aliens were to receive the new credits, the estimated cost to the federal government would be nearly $31 billion each year. (CIS Memorandum, September 2009).

As both FAIR and CIS have noted, H.R. 3200 creates affordability credits, which are taxpayer-subsidized premiums that individuals would be able to use to help them afford the cost of private insurance. The bill contains language that is meant to bar illegal aliens from receiving the credits, but the legislation is completely devoid of any provision that would require verification of eligibility for the credits. Therefore, the bill does not explicitly guarantee that the bar on illegal aliens receiving the affordability credits will actually be enforced. (See FAIR’s House Health Care Bill Analysis). In its new report, CIS notes that, two years ago, there were approximately 6.6 million illegal aliens without health insurance who had incomes below 400 percent of the federal poverty level, which is the income ceiling for eligibility for the affordability credits. If all of these illegal aliens were to apply for and receive affordability credits — which, absent immigration status verification, could very well happen – the estimated cost to American taxpayers would total nearly $31 billion. (CIS Memorandum).

CIS notes in its report that it is possible that many income-eligible illegal aliens would not apply for the affordability credits created under H.R. 3200, so the actual costs to the federal government would likely be less than $31 billion. However, if these illegal aliens were to be granted amnesty, they would become eligible for the affordability credits, and the costs to the American taxpayers would almost certainly increase. CIS also points out — as FAIR has pointed out, as well (See FAIR’s Legislative Update, August 3, 2009) — that illegal aliens could benefit from the expansion of Medicaid under H.R. 3200. Currently, the legislation does not require identity verification for individuals who claim that they were born in the United States. Accordingly, H.R. 3200 could allow illegal aliens to access the expanded Medicaid benefits. (CIS Memorandum).

Democrats on two House committees have rejected amendments meant to close these verification loopholes. On July 16, 2009, an amendment offered by Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) that would have required the government to verify that enrollees in the public plan and applicants for affordability credits are not illegal aliens was defeated in the House Ways & Means Committee on a party-line vote. (See FAIR’s Legislative Update, July 27, 2009). Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) offered an amendment during the House Energy & Commerce Committee’s consideration of H.R. 3200 which would have continued to require that the government verify whether someone enrolling in Medicaid is not an illegal alien. (See FAIR’s Legislative Update, August 3, 2009). Deal’s amendment was defeated on a 28 to 29 vote, with five of the committee’s Democratic members joining all 23 Republican members in voting for the amendment. (Vote Results).

New Orleans Mayor Reaffirms City’s Sanctuary Policy

On Wednesday, September 9, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Police Superintendent Warren Riley announced that city police officers will not ask crime victims or witnesses about their immigration status. The announcement highlighted the most recent in a string of city policy changes meant to accommodate a growing illegal alien population in New Orleans. (The Times Picayune, September 10, 2009; WWLTV, September 9, 2009).

Since 2005, the illegal alien population in New Orleans “has boomed.” (WWLTV). These aliens “flocked to rebuild the city in the wake of the 2005 flood,” and Superintendent Riley estimated that between 20,000 and 60,000 illegal aliens now reside in New Orleans. In announcing the sanctuary policy, Riley noted that the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has already made several “reforms” to accommodate the city’s growing illegal alien population, including the Department’s creation of a “Hispanic community liaison.” The NOPD also provides 26 officers with the ability to serve as translators for Spanish-speaking individuals, and approximately 350 of the NOPD’s officers have been sent to Spanish language classes. (The Times Picayune).

According to reports, last week’s sanctuary announcement merely “seemed to enshrine the city’s unofficial policing stance as it pertains to illegal immigrants.” Mayor Nagin noted that the city’s goal in preventing its officers from asking crime victims or witnesses about their immigration status was to make illegal aliens feel “welcome” not only in New Orleans, but in the United States: “We want to say that you’re welcome in New Orleans. You’re welcome in this country.” Nagin added that the policy was meant to place illegal aliens on equal ground with American citizens in New Orleans: “…we want to make sure that from a law enforcement standpoint, that whatever happens in our community, that you are treated just as any other citizen is treated in this community.” (Id.).

Riley described the sanctuary policy, and noted that the NOPD “will not under any circumstances focus on deportation.” He even specifically directed a statement towards illegal aliens living in New Orleans: “We want them to know that — unless you are the violator or the perpetrator — there is no threat of deportation or arrest, as it relates to the New Orleans Police Department.” Riley seemingly contradicted himself, however, when he claimed that the NOPD is not “looking the other way” on immigration status. The superintendent added that he had not spoken to federal officials about the sanctuary policy, and rhetorically asked press conference attendees: “Why should I?” (Id.).

Nagin and Riley made the announcement alongside Arturo Venegas, creator of the Law Enforcement Engagement Initiative, an organization that openly supports amnesty. Venegas used the press conference as a platform to express his group’s support for amnesty: “We need to figure out, we need to create a legal status for ten to twelve million folks in this country.” (WWLTV).

Obama: Legalize illegals to get them health care

From Washington Times (via Gateway Pundit):

President Obama said this week that his health care plan won’t cover illegal immigrants, but argued that’s all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.

He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered – a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants.

“Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken,” Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening in a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. “That’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else.

Mr. Obama added, “If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all.”

…and here we go. Let’s not worry about the economy, let’s not worry about the intentionally-caused and rapidly widening racial divide that alone threatens to tear us apart, let’s not worry about stabilizing any aspect of our country’s precarious condition.

No, let’s instead just throw open the borders and finish things off once and for all.

Barack Obama and the democrats will stop at nothing to see our country destroyed before his first term is up. The healthcare fight will seem easy compared to the struggle that still lies in front of us.

Be ready.

The No Credibility Zone

O’Reilly once again shows why his credibility with long-time conservative viewers is sliding.

On this evening’s show, during a discussion between O’Reilly, Tammy Bruce and Mike Gallagher on the recent conservative victories over Obama and his cronies (Van Jones, ACORN, etc…), Gallagher mentioned the presence of a million protesters at the Capitol on 9/12. O’Reilly, citing the since-discredited fire department number of 75,000, went out of his way to ‘correct’ Gallagher.

Alright, look….although the general consensus is that Gallagher’s number is high in terms of the number in attendance at any one time, the lowball 75,000 figure, widely attributed to the DC fire department, has been shown to be false almost since it was first put forth on the afternoon of the 12th.

So, where did the 75,000 number come from? According to Politifact (via pajamasmedia):

Pete Piringer, public affairs officer for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Department, said the local government no longer provides official crowd estimates because they can become politicized. But the day of the rally, Piringer unofficially told one reporter that he thought between 60,000 and 75,000 people had shown up.

“It was in no way an official estimate,” he said.

We asked Piringer whether there were enough protesters to fill the National Mall, as depicted in the photograph.

“It was an impressive crowd,” he said. But after marching down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol, the crowd “only filled the Capitol grounds, maybe up to Third Street,” he said.

In the days since and through a number of different estimation methods, the number of attendees present at any one time seems to be settling in somewhere between 250,000 and 350,000, with total attendance somewhere north, to far north, to very far north of 400,000, to “damn, there were a lot of freakin’ people there!“.

Rather than re-do the work of others, both pajamas media and political gumbo have taken their own in-depth looks at the numbers.

Conservative Nation subscribe to the ‘full back to third street’ estimate, including Pennsylvania and Maryland Aves, that when compared against park service crowd size estimation methods (see chart at the top of this page) gives us approximately 250,000 at the capitol. Unlike O’Reilly, I was there and can say with absolute confidence that this number can safely be used as an absolute lower bound.

Considering the degree of pride he seems to take in his show’s investigative prowess, there’s no way O’Reilly can be unaware that the number he continues to cite are off by at least a factor of four.

Conservative Nation has no interest in continuing to hammer these attendance numbers, but as long as O’Reilly persists in his attempts, however subtle, to minimize the TEA Party movement, we will continue to call him out on it.

The Moral Bankruptcy Of The Far Left

A thinking, feeling human being should, at their core, have some minimum level of decency, some minimum level of compassion for fellow human beings below which their God-given sense of right and wrong, good and evil, will override their everyday passions and politics; a point below which they will put aside their superficial and even deeply-held beliefs, if only just for a moment, to join with their fellow human beings to say “This Is WRONG!”.

By now, we all know about the ACORN expose by filmmakers James O’Keefe and Hanna Giles. The series of tapes they’ve released this week shows O’Keefe and Giles entering ACORN offices in DC, Baltimore, NYC, San Bernadino and now San Diego dressed as a pimp and prostitute. The premise is that they’re looking for advice and assistance in securing funds for a house in which they plan on setting up a prostitution service featuring 12-15 year-old El Salvadoran girls smuggled into the country illegally. In each and every case,  the ACORN employees were not only not shocked, but were went out of their way to assist and advise O’Keefe and Giles on subjects such as how to set up the business, hide the money, falsify tax forms, and even smuggle the underage girls into the country for the purposes of prostitution.

Even the most partisan among us should be shocked and disgusted by the ACORN employees’ willingness to facilitate and encourage the building of a child prostitution business. No matter how much we may disagree politically, this is something that should repulse us all, as well as bring universal condemnation of ACORN or anyone else who promotes or is complicit in promoting child prostitution.

So what does the ‘compassionate’ far left have to say about this?

An email dropped into my inbox this evening with a link to an article on this rather sad and pathetic anti-FOX news website (sorry, I refuse to link it here) personally attacking James O’Keefe for the job he and Hannah Giles did in exposing ACORN. Throughout the article and extending into the 20 or so comments that followed, the focus of the attack was primarily on O’Keef’s conservative political leanings, as well as some writings on his personal blog in which these losers tried to find something to ridicule. Basically, they ‘dug’, found nothing, and then attacked him anyway. Why? Because that’s what the far left does, lash out like little emotionally unstable children.

What was missing from the article and accompanying comments, however, was any sort of critical analysis of the situation, or acknowledgement – even in passing – that what the ACORN people did was wrong.

The villains, according to these people? O’Keefe. Giles. Beck. Fox. Right Wingers. Conservatives. Republicans.

Here was my response. Not holding my breath expecting it to be approved, but maybe they’ll surprise me:

These two (O’Keefe and Giles) expose an organization intent on helping facilitate child prostitution, and you have a problem with….O’Keefe and Giles?

Are you f*ing kidding me?

In truly classic liberal form, almost to a man you personally attack O’Keefe and Giles but say absolutely nothing about the real issue, which is openly criminal activity by ACORN.

My suggestion to the author of this poorly-written and entirely shameful hit piece, as well as to those passing this link around as though they’re doing the world a favor by ‘exposing’ O’Keefe and Giles: perhaps instead of creating new and increasingly unhinged ways to blame FOX News, Republicans, Glenn Beck, etc…you might instead use the time for some much-needed introspection to perhaps figure what’s gone so horribly wrong in your -own- lives to lead you to the point where you actually believe the filmmakers to be the villains in this thing.

There is something very, very wrong with your thought process.

Next up, we have this video of Ed Schultz, hereafter known as Big Dumb Ed* , interviewing Bertha Lewis of ACORN on MSNBC, hereafter known as the Microsoft National Bias Company*.

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Schultz: Oh yeah, the things these people did were bad but AREN’T FOX NEWS AND THE REPUBLICANS TERRIBLE?

This is why they call Schultz ‘Big Dumb Ed”. Actually, it would be easy to take a few shots at Schultz’ staggering lack of intelligence and extreme intellectual dishonesty and leave it at that, but the fact that he and others like him can simultaneously defend ACORN while blaming everything on the republican party and conservatives only further illustrates the degree of derangement that permeates and even defines the far left. Sickening.

What about the child prostitution, ED, or is that the republicans fault too? Or maybe you’re just OK with it.

(as an aside on Bertha Lewis, the more she talks, the further she sinks the chances of even the best attorneys (not to suggest for a second that sleazeball hack moron ACORN attorney Scott Levinson has the chops to deal with any of this) to construct a case against O’Keefe and Giles that couldn’t be immediately destroyed by someone with the minimal intellectual firepower of, oh, I dunno…. a Tilly sister, perhaps.)

The far left in this country has some real problems; problems that extend well beyond a fatally flawed ideology and into what is, in my opinion, some sort of psychosis that actually allows that ideology to trump even something as vile, as morally repugnant, as undeniably evil as the forced prostitution of children.

And they wonder why their agenda is being rejected by the American people.

Meet the Acorn Seven

Here they are, the seven United States senators who voted against defunding the criminal enterprise ACORN, despite the overwhelming audio/video evidence of criminal activity by ACORN employees. This activity includes counseling a young couple who they thought were a pimp and prostitute how to fill out fraudulent home loan forms, how to hide illegally-obtained income from the IRS, and worst of all, how to conceal the fact that they were engaged in the prostitution of underage illegal immigrant girls.

By their votes yesterday, these seven disgraceful, scum-of-the-earth senators told the world that tax fraud, mortgage fraud, and child prostitution & international sex trafficking are a-OK with them.

How they can stand to look at themselves in the mirror is beyond me.

Unfortunately, there is no mechanism I’m aware of for the people to remove a sitting U.S. senator from office prior to the expiration of their current term. Below each senator’s name, I have included their next reelection date. Burris, Gillibrand and Leahy are up in 2010, and Burris so far says he will not seek reelection, and it’s almost a foregone conclusion that Gillibrand won’t be able to hold onto her seat in an election (she was appointed by NY Governor Patterson to fill the senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton), but New Yorkers need to make damn sure she’s gone by showing up to vote. Leahy is going to be a bit tougher, having served on the US senate since 1975. However, this vote is sure to not sit well with Vermonters, and will most certainly be used by whoever runs against him.

Whitehouse, Sanders and Casey are up in 2012, and Durbin in 2014. Mark your calendars.

In the mean time, call these creeps and let them know the enormity of the mistake they just made.
